Hello Friends!

Hope you are well! We’re finally back to Spring-like weather here in Michigan, beautiful sunny skies and 50’s. Last week we were looking for swimming holes  - go figure!

Coming up this weekend – “Empty Chair Night” at Trinity House Theatre, Sunday 7pm in Livonia, MI. This is the brainchild of fabulous Singer-Songwriter -  Joel Palmer always featuring him, Annie & Rod Capps, some other featured singer (me, this time) and an empty chair for an audience member to share a song. It is always a great time and you don’t need to offer a song to come and enjoy.  I always love to play with these inspiring folks!

I had a wonderful time February at The Ann Arbor Storytelling Festival at The Ark. There were some incredible performers – Willie Claflin, the headliner really floored me with his versatility and ingenuity. A Singer-Songwriter himself he wowed us all with his guitar licks and his talking moose (had to be there!).  I’ll post some of the clips from my set soon. It was a treat to have a contingent of great friends young and old coming to the family concert the next day as well!

April will be a busy month – more on that later.

In the meantime, be safe and well and enjoy the sunshine!!

Cheers,

Allison

Happy February,

Hope you’ve eased into the New Year and stopped crossing out 2011 on your checks (I’m barely there). All well here…

Here's what's coming up this February…

I’m so thrilled and honored to be performing at the Ann Arbor Storytelling Festival at The Ark for an adult performance Saturday, February 18th at 7:30pm and Sunday, February 19th at 1pm for a Children’s show at 1pm. You can buy tickets at: http://theark.org/2974.html for the adult show and http://theark.org/2975.html for the kids’ show. Hope you can make it!

Some exciting news… the story I created for Story Collider in Ann Arbor and Brooklyn this past summer was included in the New York Times online blog today. See the great article about Story Collider here:

Hoping you are fairing well for the onslaught of Winter!!! Day by day…

New Year 2012
January 07, 2012

Happy New Year, Friends!

Hoping you had wonderful holidays (or at least survived them intact) and that the New Year is treating you well so far. If you’re nostalgic for the holidays already, our holiday song “New York in December” might help (posted on the website: www.allisondowney.com)

We have had too many blessings to count, but here’s some highlights: Living in New York City hanging out with old friends and making new ones; Summer and Fall in Michigan – i.e. cherry picking / apple picking with great friends; performing at The Moth Mainstage and Story Collider; Visits with family & friends in DC, VA, DE, and CO; Michael starting pre-school, being potty-trained and turning into a 3-year old firefighter; John leaving university teaching to work fulltime at his company Reaching Results (www.reachingresults.com) and kicking a-- ; John’s mom, Linda, moving to Michigan (from Florida!) just in time for Thanksgiving!; and my working with the great folks at Michigan Radio to develop a new radio show! Like I said – we’ve got a lot to be grateful for (potty training is #1)!

We’ve got some exciting things in the pipeline for the New Year (besides cleaning my desk – well, that’s not really exciting, so never mind):  I AM really excited about working with Producer Zak Rosen (now living in Israel) for the next few months to develop the pilot radio show.  From April- June we’ll produce it. More info. as that progresses! I am also excited about continuing to work with wonderful clients (who have become friends) in coaching storytelling and teaching 2 month-long storytelling courses to senior citizens starting this month.  And what better way to kick off the New Year than with Tom Saunders, host of “Folk it!” internet radio show. It’s right around the bend…

SUNDAY, JANUARY 15, 2012, FOLK IT! Live on a3radio.com

CRAZY WISDOM TEA ROOM, 114 S. Main St., Ann Arbor, MI

BE PART OF A LIVE RADIO AUDIENCE! (or just listen on line!)

Next Sunday (Jan. 15th) John and I will be performing on “Folk it!” a live internet radio show hosted by renaissance man Tom Saunders (and all around good guy!) from 6-7:30pm. We may even rope Annie & Rod Capps into joining us! You can listen to it from wherever you are by tuning in to www.a3radio.com at 6pm and it will be rebroadcast each day the next week at 3pm. OR (and!) you can come be part of the live radio audience at Crazy Wisdom Tea Room in Ann Arbor, MI and your laughter, applause and heckles will be recorded as well.  Won’t that be fun!

Wishing you a joyous New Year!!

Allison
